Johannesburg Opens Alexandra Automotive Hub to Empower Mechanics and Grow Small Businesses‎‎Johannesburg, South Africa : The City of Johannesburg has officially opened the Alexandra Automotive Hub, a new facility aimed at transforming informal automotive businesses into registered, accredited and sustainable enterprises.‎‎Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero announced the opening, describing the Hub as an important step towards supporting the automotive skills and businesses that have served Alexandra and the wider Johannesburg community for generations.‎‎Morero noted that many automotive operators have historically worked from pavements, backyards and makeshift workshops, often without access to the facilities, training and business support needed to grow their operations.‎‎Developed by the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), with the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) as its anchor tenant, the Hub provides workshops, vehicle wash bays and shared facilities for automotive operators.‎‎The initiative also offers training, accreditation, business development support and connections to major players in the automotive industry.‎‎According to Morero, established businesses will mentor emerging operators, helping them develop the skills and professional standards required to compete in the formal economy.‎‎The programme is also open to women, young people and persons living with disabilities, creating opportunities for broader participation in the automotive sector.‎‎Morero emphasised that the facility is intended to provide more than physical infrastructure. Its broader objective is to help informal mechanics and other automotive service providers build businesses capable of securing fleet maintenance contracts, bidding for tenders and supplying dealerships.‎‎The Alexandra Automotive Hub is expected to provide a platform for skills development, business formalisation and entrepreneurship, while helping local operators access opportunities within the automotive value chain.‎‎The initiative represents an effort to connect Alexandra’s existing automotive skills with the training, accreditation and industry networks needed to develop more competitive businesses.‎‎Its long-term impact will depend on how effectively the Hub supports participating businesses, expands access to opportunities and helps entrepreneurs build sustainable operations.‎‎RSA Politics will continue to follow developments in Johannesburg’s local economic development initiatives and their impact on small businesses and communities.‎‎#AlexandraAutomotiveHub #DadaMorero #Alexandra #Johannesburg #SmallBusinessDevelopment #YouthEmployment #SkillsDevelopment #AutomotiveIndustry #EconomicDevelopment #RSApolitics‎‎Alexandra Automotive Hub, Dada Morero, City of Johannesburg, Alexandra news, Johannesburg news, Johannesburg Development Agency, Automotive Industry Development Centre, South African automotive industry, informal mechanics, small business development, youth employment South Africa, women in business, skills development, business accreditation, entrepreneurship South Africa, economic empowerment, local economic development, RSA Politics‎
