SANDTON, GAUTENG : President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on South African businesses to play a greater role in tackling youth unemployment by providing young people with their first work opportunities and investing in their skills and potential.
Ramaphosa delivered the keynote address at the SA Youth National Leadership Convening on Youth Employment, held at The Galleria Conference and Events Venue in Sandton, Gauteng.
The President emphasised that addressing youth unemployment is a shared national responsibility that requires cooperation between government, the private sector, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
He urged businesses to create opportunities for young people to enter the labour market, highlighting the importance of giving inexperienced job seekers a chance to gain practical workplace experience and develop the skills needed to build sustainable careers.
Ramaphosa also stressed the need to strengthen the connection between education, skills development and industry to ensure that existing youth employment initiatives translate into meaningful and lasting economic opportunities.
He called for greater efforts to turn employment programmes into sustainable pathways to earning an income, enabling young people to move from education and training into productive work.
The President’s message places renewed emphasis on the role of the private sector in helping address South Africa’s youth unemployment challenge, particularly by expanding access to entry-level employment and investing in the next generation of workers.
As discussions around youth employment continue, stronger partnerships between government, businesses and training institutions remain essential to ensuring that young South Africans have access to the opportunities, experience and skills needed to participate meaningfully in the economy.
RSA Politics will continue to report on developments affecting youth employment, economic opportunities and South Africa’s future workforce.
